Curriculum

Our curriculum is a comprehensive child-centric curriculum that comes with set of objectives in all major areas of development. It is related to the child’s developmental readiness, interests, questions, style of learning and the cultural context in which the child finds himself. In order to meet our curriculum objectives, we take the children through a structured learning program for 3 years, which involves a lot of  focussed activities. No activity in the school is meaningless or done without a clear cut objective and outcome for the child.

Academic :
In the beginning years of childhood, we begin with fine motor and practical life skills. English is introduced with phonetics. Mathematics is introduced with materials that help the child comprehend this very abstract area. There are also a variety of activities that aid cognitive development and logical thinking. Gradually over time, children are taken through a program that covers fairly complex areas of language, mathematics, geography, history and science in a manner that will help them explore, discover and understand the fundamentals.

Non-Academic :
During the course of working through the day, we constantly create opportunities for children to develop their skills to be expressive for emotional development. We encourage them to receive help from and offer help to other children, thus inculcating a sense of social awareness. Mixed age grouping also helps them become better learners. We also lay emphasis on creating environmental awareness and help them develop practical skills like cutting, sieving and gardening

Our Materials

We believe preschool education should give as much exposure as possible for a child’s cognitive development. Appropriate stimulus is the key to early learning. Hence, the activities have been designed keeping the child in mind and ensuring there is “directional” play all the time.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS

Fine motor skill is the coordination of muscles for movement. This generally involves the synchronization of hands and fingers with the eyes. Fine motor skills are achieved when the child starts using his/her hand, fingers and wrist muscles. It is important to perform crucial day-to-day tasks like holding pencils and other objects, moving them, wearing clothes, buttoning, eating and grasping. There are specific reedo learning materials that encourage eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills in the child.

SENSORIAL DEVELOPMENT

The term ‘Sensorial’ is derived from the words sense or senses. A child is born with 5 basic senses – touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. The sense organs related to each of these senses collect information and send it to the brain. The brain helps the child to understand the world around him/her. Sensorial activities in our Preschool environment like grading, sorting and pairing helps the child in his/her efforts to sort out the different information/impressions collected by the senses. Specific learning materials are used for the sensorial activities.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics can be seen all around the young child from day of his/her birth – We tell the child his/her date of birth, the time, number of toys, number of family members etc. The child’s understanding of numbers develops from experience with real objects (e.g.: counting fruits or toys) which eventually becomes abstract ideas. A child is naturally attracted to numbers and working with numbers is profoundly satisfying to him/her. The structured environment in our preschool provides an order of systematically graded tasks to the child. The mathematical concepts are explained using material activities and there are specific learning materials used.

LANGUAGE

Language is a way of representing our experiences to ourselves and others. It enables us to abstract an idea, categorise it in the mind and express it graphically or verbally. A child absorbs a language in the same way he/she absorbs any other information. The first language the child makes his/her own is the language in the home environment. This is termed as the mother tongue. In our preschool,  there are activities which help the child take conscious possession of his/her absorbed wealth of language. The activities offered help the child analyse the
language, prepare him/her for writing work and introduce him/her to the reading skill. Specific learning materials are used for the language activities.

SCIENCE

A child is naturally curious and fascinated by the phenomena found in the natural world. Science activities will help him/her to know the world better. Topics in science range from astronomy, geography, botany to zoology and a few more. The idea of introducing science in the preschool years is to introduce the child to the world around him/her and its laws and structures. Various material based activities are devised and implemented to help the child ask questions about the happenings in the world. Specific learning materials are used for the science activities.
